Pakistan, Iran Discuss Diplomacy as US Delegation Heads to Islamabad

(MENAFN) Pakistan’s foreign minister Ishaq Dar stressed the importance of maintaining dialogue during a conversation on Sunday with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, as a US delegation prepares to arrive in Islamabad.

According to a statement from his office, Dar highlighted "the need for continued dialogue and engagement as essential to resolving the current issues as soon as possible for promoting the peace and stability in the region and beyond."

The statement added that both sides agreed to stay in close contact, while a potential phone call between Iran’s president and Pakistan’s prime minister is expected later the same day.

As stated by reports citing sources familiar with the situation, at least two US aircraft carrying “advanced delegates” landed in Islamabad on Sunday ahead of a second round of high-level discussions with Iranian officials.

Later, US President Donald Trump said American representatives are scheduled to arrive in Islamabad by Monday evening for negotiations with Iran.

According to reports, Trump also indicated that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will take part in the upcoming talks.

Pakistan previously hosted senior-level discussions between the US and Iran on April 11 and 12—the most significant engagement between the two countries since the Iran–US diplomatic break 1979—though those negotiations ended without a conclusive outcome.
