Omid Zabihi
- Research Fellow, Institute for Frontier Materials Carbon Fibre and Composites, Deakin University
I am a materials scientist with more than a decade of experience working with polymers, plastics and circular materials. Based at Deakin University's Institute for Frontier Materials, my work focuses on how everyday plastic waste can be turned into useful, high-value products.
My research sits at the intersection of science and society. I'm interested not only in how materials behave, but also in how they shape industries, economies and daily life. A key part of my work is exploring practical solutions for reducing plastic waste and improving their circularity.
Beyond the lab, I have a strong interest in history and social issues, particularly how scientific advances connect with broader communities. I'm passionate about bridging the gap between materials science and the public-translating complex ideas into real-world impact and helping people better understand the role materials play in a more sustainable future.
