Jordan, Iraq Discuss Military Cooperation

Amman, April 19 (Petra) -- Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti on Sunday received an Iraqi military delegation, headed by Secretary-General of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense Lt. Gen. Shwan Mazhar Ali.
The meeting discussed mechanisms to advance Jordanian-Iraqi military partnership and enhance bilateral coordination on issues of mutual interest, particularly counterterrorism efforts and measures to combat drug smuggling.
Talking at the meeting held at headquarters of Jordan Armed Forces (JAF)-Arab Army, Huneiti reiterated the Kingdom's commitment, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, to strengthen its ties with Iraq and provide various forms of support and cooperation in ways to bolster the two countries' security and stability.
For its part, the Iraqi delegation expressed appreciation for Jordan's supportive positions toward Iraq.
Praising the "strong" mutual relations, the delegates stressed the importance of building on ties to serve shared interests.
The meeting was attended by a number of senior JAF officers, alongside the Iraqi military attaché in Amman.
