UK Economic Growth Beats Forecasts in February

(MENAFN) The UK economy recorded stronger-than-expected growth in February, expanding by 0.5% compared with the previous month, official figures showed on Thursday.

Economists had anticipated a much weaker increase of around 0.1%, following the same modest growth rate seen in January, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Monthly performance was supported by gains across key sectors, with construction output rising 1%, services increasing 0.5%, and production also up 0.5%.

On a year-on-year basis, the economy grew by 1% in February, beating forecasts that had projected growth of about 0.6%.

The ONS noted that “Real gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 0.5%, following a growth of 0.3% in the three months to January 2026, and no growth in the three months to December 2025,” highlighting recent fluctuations in economic momentum.

Over the three months leading to February, services output rose by 0.5% and production increased by 1.2%, while construction activity declined by 2%.
