Indonesia Seeks Petroleum Supplies from Russia

(MENAFN) Indonesia has requested petroleum supplies from Russia, according to Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev.

Speaking on Russian state television, Tsivilev said Moscow positions itself as a dependable energy supplier and noted that Indonesia is reassessing its import sources in light of current global conditions affecting maritime routes.

"While Indonesia previously purchased its products primarily from other countries, such as the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Australia, they are now considering the issue of supply reliability, given the current situation in the strait," he said.

He added that discussions are underway to establish a long-term supply agreement at mutually acceptable pricing.

The comments followed high-level talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Moscow, where both sides reviewed cooperation in areas including energy, agriculture, and industrial development.

According to official statements, the two leaders also emphasized strengthening ties in education and cultural exchange, alongside expanding collaboration in sectors such as space and pharmaceuticals.

Russian officials said the discussions aim to support continued growth in bilateral trade, while Indonesia expressed interest in deeper consultations to address future economic and energy challenges.
