Whistleblowers Allege Andrew Used Public Funds for Personal Expenses

(MENAFN) Whistleblowing retired civil servants have alleged that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor billed taxpayers for massages and excessive travel expenses while serving as the UK’s trade envoy, as stated by reports.

One former civil servant, who worked in the UK trade department in the early 2000s, said he refused to approve payment for Andrew’s request to cover the cost of “massage services,” but was overruled by senior officials. “I thought it was wrong… I'd said we mustn't pay it, but we ended up paying it anyway,” he said, referring to a claim following Andrew’s visit to the Middle East.

The Department for Business and Trade has not disputed the allegations regarding Andrew’s tenure as envoy from 2001 to 2011, but noted that there is an ongoing police investigation into the former prince.

A news agency sought a response from Andrew, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing in his associations with paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein and rejected claims that he personally benefited from his role as trade envoy.

While Andrew’s position as trade representative was unpaid, he received support from civil servants and taxpayer funding for international trips.

In light of the Epstein files revelations, the former civil servant expressed regret that Andrew was allowed to claim expenses for a massage, saying it could have been an opportunity to scrutinize his behavior. “I can't say it would have stopped him, but we should have flagged that something was wrong,” he said.
