Turkey Records Fourth Straight Month of Falling Inflation
(MENAFN) Türkiye’s annual inflation rate decreased to 30.65% in January, down from 30.89% in December, marking the fourth consecutive monthly decline, according to official data from the Turkish Statistical Institute released Tuesday.
The report showed that consumer price increases have generally trended downward over the past 20 months, with only one exception. The January figure represents the smallest annual rise in prices since November 2021, when inflation stood at 21.31%.
Among the largest price increases last month were education at 64.7%, housing at 45.36%, and hotels, cafes, and restaurants at 33.31%. The lowest increases were recorded in clothing and footwear at 7.07%, communications at 20.09%, and health at 21.63%. On a monthly basis, consumer inflation for January was 4.84%.
Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek said on the social media platform Nsosyal that food prices and seasonal factors contributed to the January figures. He added that these factors are expected to have only a limited effect on the overall trend of inflation.
Simsek reaffirmed the government’s commitment to pursuing disinflation policies, noting that they will continue to be supported by supply-side measures.
