Payroll Data Release Gets Delayed Amid US Government Shutdown

(MENAFN) The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) announced on Monday that it would postpone the publication of the January nonfarm payrolls figures, which had originally been set for release on Friday, citing the ongoing partial shutdown of the federal government.

In an official notice, BLS stated: “The Employment Situation release for January 2026 will not be released as scheduled on Friday, February 6, 2026. The release will be rescheduled upon the resumption of government funding,” making clear that the delay is directly tied to the lapse in funding.

The announcement further explained that the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey data for December 2025 would also be withheld.

According to the agency, standard operations will restart and any revisions to the data publication calendar will be communicated once the government resumes full operations.

Reiterating this point, the agency confirmed that the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report for December will likewise not be issued, emphasizing again that routine activity and updated scheduling details will be restored following the reopening of the government.

The partial shutdown began after federal lawmakers were unable to finalize the legislative steps required to enact a budget package that had cleared the Senate on January 30.

That legislation, which was returned to the House of Representatives after undergoing amendments, is anticipated to be brought forward for a vote on Tuesday.
