Israeli Army Levels Vineyards, Raids Towns in West Bank
(MENAFN) Israeli troops on Monday destroyed large areas of farmland in the Bethlehem district and carried out multiple military incursions in towns and villages across the occupied West Bank, according to reports.
Bulldozers were deployed in the town of al-Khader, south of Bethlehem, where Israeli forces flattened agricultural land and uprooted around 200 long-standing grapevines. The land clearance took place in the Um Rukba area on the southern edge of the town, as stated by local officials cited in reports.
Elsewhere, Israeli forces stormed a Palestinian home in Hizma, northeast of occupied East Jerusalem, and seized it for military use. Troops reportedly spread throughout the town, entered the house, forced the residents to leave, and turned the property into a military post as part of ongoing operations in the area.
Additional incursions were reported in the villages of Kafr Malik and Barqa, located northeast and east of Ramallah. While troops entered both communities, there were no reports of arrests or house searches during those operations.
In the southern West Bank, witnesses said Israeli soldiers raided the town of al-Dhahiriya in the Hebron area, where they set up a checkpoint, stopped and searched Palestinian vehicles, and ordered some young men out of their cars for body searches.
Israeli military activity in the West Bank has sharply escalated since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023. The campaign has included deadly raids, demolitions of homes, forced displacement, and the expansion of settlements. Palestinians say these actions are intended to lay the groundwork for Israel’s annexation of the territory, a move they argue would effectively destroy the possibility of a two-state solution outlined in UN resolutions.
According to official Palestinian figures, more than 1,110 Palestinians have been killed, roughly 11,500 injured, and over 21,000 detained in the West Bank since the escalation began.
