Teen dies, three get injured as bus hits protesters in Jerusalem

(MENAFN) A tragic incident occurred in Jerusalem on Tuesday when a bus struck a group of ultra-Orthodox Jews protesting against military conscription, killing a 14-year-old and injuring three others.

A distressing video captures the young victim being dragged by the vehicle as onlookers scream and chase after the bus in horror.

Earlier, the protesters had set fires and blocked an intersection in the Romena neighborhood, attempting to obstruct traffic.

Authorities have detained the bus driver, who reportedly called the emergency hotline seeking assistance to manage the crowd surrounding his vehicle.

Ultra-Orthodox political parties condemned the incident, with the Shas party demanding a “thorough and uncompromising investigation, and full justice for those responsible.”

President Isaac Herzog called for calm, stating on social media that the “painful evening must be a wake-up call for all of us.”

The demonstrations are part of ongoing protests by Israel’s ultra-Orthodox community, which seeks to maintain exemptions from mandatory military service. Some of these rallies have previously led to clashes with police.
