Arms, Explosives Recovered In Kupwara


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Kupwara- Security forces on Tuesday recovered a cache of arms and explosives during a joint cordon-and-search operation in the Putusai area under Police Station Sogam in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, officials said.

The operation was launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs and was jointly conducted by troops of 47 Rashtriya Rifles, 31 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) and 08 Sector Rashtriya Rifles. Acting swiftly on the inputs, the forces cordoned off the area and carried out a thorough search.

During the operation, security personnel recovered a significant quantity of arms and ammunition, including 34 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, 18 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, one pistol magazine, one Pakistan-made hand grenade, four Chinese-made grenades and an ammunition pouch.

Officials said the recovery indicated an attempt to stockpile weapons in the area, which could have been intended for use in militant activities. The seized arms and explosives were taken into custody for further examination and legal proceedings.
