Russia US meet to restore, boost ties, agree to make it annual event
(MENAFN) Representatives from the United States and Russia convened a meeting this week to explore ways to restore and strengthen commercial relations, with plans to make the dialogue an annual event, according to reports.
A joint statement following the discussions in Dubai, UAE, emphasized that business contacts between the two nations should continue in a constructive, politically neutral manner. Organizers highlighted that the talks focused on opportunities for cooperation, rebuilding trust, and reestablishing direct company-to-company connections.
The Russian delegation was led by Sergey Katyrin, president of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, while the US side was headed by Robert Agee, president and CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia. Katyrin noted that both Russian and American firms remain interested in pursuing investment, industrial, technological, and infrastructure projects.
Participants expressed hope that the dialogue would create better conditions for businesses in both countries, reduce operational risks, and enhance mutual confidence. Agee stressed the importance of maintaining open channels of communication and said the US delegation seeks practical areas of collaboration with Russian partners wherever feasible.
Many international companies exited Russia following the imposition of Western sanctions after the 2022 escalation of the Ukraine conflict, while others withdrew to avoid potential secondary sanctions or international pressure. Nevertheless, Agee indicated that American firms continue to see Russia as a promising market, pending the removal of sanctions.
The talks covered potential opportunities across a variety of sectors, including investment, technology, industry, and infrastructure development, according to the joint statement.
