Hungary Highlights Türkiye as Key Energy Transit Partner

(MENAFN) Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto emphasized on Monday the significance of Türkiye as a "reliable and fair transit partner," underlining Ankara's crucial role in safeguarding European energy security.

Posting on the US social media platform X, Szijjarto, who visited Istanbul alongside Prime Minister Viktor Orban and other officials, noted that the inaugural meeting of the Türkiye-Hungary Joint Consultation Mechanism had taken place. The session involved foreign and defense ministers, national security advisors, and prominent figures from the defense industry.

Szijjarto highlighted that both nations "stand together" in advocating for a negotiated resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. He also pointed out that Budapest and Ankara "condemn attacks against energy supply routes," whether directed at Russian oil pipelines or commercial vessels in the Black Sea.

"Türkiye is a reliable and fair transit partner. This year, around 8 billion cubic meters of gas will reach Hungary through the TurkStream pipeline," Szijjarto remarked, reinforcing the strategic importance of energy cooperation.

In addition, Türkiye and Hungary formalized multiple agreements on Monday across various sectors, including aviation, security, technology, culture, and education, aiming to strengthen bilateral relations.
