Al-Sisi, Haftar Discuss Libya Stability, Call For Withdrawal Of Foreign Forces


(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander Khalifa Haftar in Cairo on Monday to discuss Libya's stability and the broader regional situation. The meeting underscored Egypt's firm commitment to Libya's unity and sovereignty, with both leaders calling for the immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory.

Al-Sisi emphasized the“deep and special” ties between Egypt and Libya, reaffirming Egypt's full support for preserving Libya's territorial integrity and sovereignty. He also praised the LNA's role in maintaining stability, describing it as pivotal for the security of Libya and the region.

In return, Haftar expressed gratitude for Egypt's ongoing support in Libya's efforts to restore security and stability. He highlighted the continued coordination between the two nations on developments within Libya and the broader region.

Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that Al-Sisi reiterated Egypt's strong backing for efforts aimed at resolving the Libyan crisis, particularly the push for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections. He added that Egypt will continue supporting the LNA and other Libyan institutions in line with the historic ties between the two countries.

The meeting also addressed the maritime boundary delimitation between Egypt and Libya, with both sides agreeing to enhance cooperation to safeguard their mutual interests while adhering to international law.

In addition, Al-Sisi and Haftar discussed the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Both leaders emphasized the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to secure a peaceful resolution to the crisis, underlining that Sudan's stability is critical to the national security of both Egypt and Libya.
