Amman, Dec. 8 (Petra) – The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs on Monday strongly condemned an Israeli police raid on the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem, calling it a blatant violation of international law and a breach of the immunities and privileges granted to United Nations organizations.
The Ministry's official spokesperson, Ambassador Fuad Majali, said the Kingdom rejects and strongly condemns Israel's continued systematic campaign to restrict UNRWA and undermine its vital and irreplaceable role in providing services to Palestinian refugees across its five areas of operation, in accordance with the mandate granted by the United Nations.
Majali underscored that the Israeli measures target UNRWA's symbolic importance, as the agency affirms the right of Palestinian refugees to return and receive compensation under international law, describing the move as a clear attempt to deprive the Palestinian people of essential rights and services recognized by the international community and relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly Resolution 194.
He warned of the "catastrophic repercussions" of the illegal Israeli measures against UNRWA and its institutions, which provide indispensable and irreplaceable services. He called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities, confront Israeli decisions and practices targeting the agency, and secure the necessary political and financial support to enable UNRWA to continue delivering its vital services to Palestinian refugees.
