Data from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) indicated that the earthquake originated in Bangladesh. The United States Geological Survey reported that the 5.7-magnitude quake struck near the Ghorashal region at 10:08 am, with the epicentre located around 14 km from Narsingdi.

This incident followed two moderate earthquakes that had earlier shaken parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

In South Bengal, the tremors were felt around 10:10 am and continued for nearly 20 seconds. A resident of Salt Lake Sector 3 mentioned that the fans and furniture in their home had shaken for several seconds, indicating the strength of the jolt.

Authorities have not yet reported any damage or casualties.

Many social media users said they had felt the tremors in Kolkata for a short duration but described them as intense. One user commented that although the quake was brief, it caused significant alarm across several areas. Another noted that the tremors seemed unusually prolonged and felt powerful.
