Small Plane Crash Leaves Three Dead in Japan

(MENAFN) A single-engine aircraft plummeted into mountainous terrain in southwestern Japan on Tuesday, claiming the lives of all three occupants, according to local news outlets.

Emergency responders in Fukuoka Prefecture received a distress call approximately 10:45 a.m. local time regarding what witnesses described as a small plane that had crashed and was producing black smoke in Yame City, a public broadcaster reported.

Rescue teams comprising police officers and firefighters located the wreckage and recovered three bodies around 12:15 p.m. in a mountainous region near the boundary with Oita Prefecture, the report said.

The aircraft, identified as a Cirrus SR20 single-engine propeller plane, had been cleared for departure from Saga airport in adjacent Saga Prefecture at approximately 10:13 a.m., with an expected arrival at an Osaka Prefecture airport at 12:43 p.m., according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Saga airport office.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash, though officials have not yet disclosed the identities of the victims or potential causes of the accident.
