Gas Pipeline Explodes, Bursts into Flames in Russia's Omsk Region

(MENAFN) A gas pipeline exploded and burst into flames in Russia's Omsk region during the early morning hours of Tuesday, with Moscow attributing the blast to maintenance operations while Kyiv-linked outlets suggest a drone strike was responsible.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) regional office stated that flames erupted near Rostovka village following repair activities on an exposed section of the infrastructure.

"At 05:13 MSK on Nov. 18, a rupture occurred at the gas pipeline branch leading to Gas Distribution Station No. 3 in Omsk city near the Rostovka settlement, resulting in ignition," the agency said in a statement.

Officials confirmed zero casualties in the blast. Emergency responders secured the perimeter and successfully suppressed the fire.

Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk personnel are now mobilizing to begin repair operations, according to authorities. An investigative panel will probe what triggered the pipeline breach.

However, Ukrainian media outlets have asserted the infrastructure was struck during an overnight unmanned aerial assault conducted by Kyiv.
