Kazakhstan hails Success of gas deal with Russia, Uzbekistan

(MENAFN) Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Saturday described the three-nation gas collaboration between Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan as a success.

Speaking at a press conference in Tashkent, Tokayev highlighted the positive results of the joint gas venture, calling them “encouraging.” He added, “We aim to boost gas transit volumes through concerted efforts. Additionally, there are promising opportunities for broadening collaboration in the petroleum and nuclear sectors.”

The initiative follows a June 2023 agreement in which Uzbekistan finalized a gas procurement deal with Gazprom, with deliveries beginning in October of that year. By mid-October 2025, Russia confirmed that Gazprom was actively supplying Uzbekistan with roughly 7.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually via Kazakhstan under the contract.

President Tokayev had concluded a two-day state visit to Russia on Nov. 11-12 before heading directly to Uzbekistan. While in Tashkent, he is set to attend a consultative meeting on Sunday with other Central Asian leaders.
