Mark Sutton
- Honorary Professor in the School of Geosciences, University of Edinburgh
Mark Sutton is based at the Edinburgh Research Station of the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, and is an Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh, School of Geosciences. His work focuses on the science and management of nitrogen and related nutrient pollution, including its effects on air and water quality, climate change, ecosystems, biodiversity, human health and economy. He particularly specializes in atmospheric ammonia, while engaging widely in intergovernmental policy processes for environment, climate, air and water pollution and biodiversity.
Prof. Sutton is a Co-chair of the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management (GPNM), convened by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP); he is a Co-chair of the UNECE Task Force on Reactive Nitrogen (TFRN), under the auspices of the Geneva Air Convention; he is Director of the International Nitrogen Management System (INMS), supported by UNEP and the Global Environment Facility (GEF); and he is Director of the GCRF South Asian Nitrogen Hub (SANH), which was supported by UK Research and Innovation through its Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) between 2019 and 2024.
