Pres. Signs 27Th Amendment In Pakistan Constitution Into Law
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
ISLAMABAD, Nov 13 (KUNA) -- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday has given his assent to the constitution (Twenty-Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2025, enacting it into law.
The aforementioned law would lead to the establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) after the enactment of the 27th Amendment bill. The president's assent comes after approval of the bill by the Lower and Upper House of the parliament with a two third majority.
Following the approval by the parliament, the Federal Cabinet has approved amendments to the Pakistan Army Act, Pakistan Air Force Act, and Pakistan Navy Act. The purpose of these amendments is to bring the laws related to the Armed Forces of Pakistan in harmony with the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Through the changes in the act, the Chief of Army Staff is set to be appointed as Chief of the Defense Forces (CDF) with a five-year term from the date of appointment.
Opposition political parties have criticized the amendment and staged a walkout from the parliament against the bill. Two senior Supreme Court Judges, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah handed in their resignations after the amendment was signed by the President. (end)
