UNICEF Supports Health Workers In Afghanistan To Fight Child Malnutrition
The European Union's humanitarian aid program said UNICEF, with financial support from ECHO-Asia, is helping Afghan health workers address child malnutrition through home-based care.
Health staff will visit children in their homes to provide treatment for malnutrition, reducing the need for hospitalization, the program said on Thursday.
UNICEF is providing training to ensure these workers can identify and manage malnutrition promptly through outpatient care, improving early intervention and outcomes for children.
The organization has previously established 70“child growth centers” across Afghanistan to monitor and treat malnourished children.
UNICEF highlighted that many families, particularly in mountainous regions like Bamyan, lack access to varied and nutritious foods, increasing vulnerability to malnutrition.
Officials emphasized that expanding community-based care and training health workers is critical to tackling malnutrition, especially in remote and underserved areas of Afghanistan.
Aid agencies are coordinating with local authorities to ensure children receive timely nutritional support, aiming to prevent long-term health issues and improve child survival rates.
