China Import Expo Ends Monday with Historic USD83.49B in Trade Deals
(MENAFN) The eighth China International Import Expo wrapped up Monday with a historic $83.49 billion in one-year intended transactions, marking a 4.4% increase from the prior edition and establishing an unprecedented benchmark, expo administrators announced.
The milestone emerged following Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump's summit in South Korea last month, where the two sides agreed to a one-year trade and tariff agreement.
Conducted Nov. 5-10 in the eastern metropolis of Shanghai, the exposition drew 4,108 enterprises from 138 countries and territories, alongside 290 corporations and industry leaders from the Fortune Global 500, a state-run news outlet reported.
The six-day gathering showcased 461 new products, technologies, and services spanning sectors including biomedicine, technical equipment, and green and low-carbon technology.
The eighth expo welcomed 43 trade delegations and exceeding 700 sub-delegations, with more than 460,000 registered participants, up 7% from the previous year.
China has maintained its position as the world's second-largest import market for 16 consecutive years, with the nation's goods and services imports during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) expected to exceed $15 trillion, according to Vice Commerce Minister Sheng Qiuping.
Inaugurated in 2018 as the inaugural national-level exposition centered on imports, the initiative was established to advance China's opening-up strategy and convert its expansive market into a globally shared opportunity.
