N. Korea Raps New US Sanctions As Hostile Act
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
TOKYO, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- North Korea on Thursday condemned the latest US sanctions as a demonstration of Washington's "invariable hostile intention" toward Pyongyang, warning it will take countermeasures "with patience," state-run media reported.
Kim Un Chol, vice minister for US affairs at North Korea's Foreign Ministry, said in a statement carried by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that the new measures confirmed the US' unchanged stance of hostility toward his country.
"The US has fully betrayed again its wicked nature to be hostile towards the DPRK till the end," Kim said, referring to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea by its official name.
The statement criticized Washington for imposing its fifth round of unilateral sanctions since the current US administration took office, targeting eight individuals and two entities in North Korea for alleged cybercrimes and money laundering.
"The US should not expect or desire to see its own mode of dealing, which is full of pressure, appeasement, threat and blackmail, working on the DPRK someday," Kim said.
He added that the sanctions "will have no effect on the DPRK's thinking and viewpoint in the future, too, as in the past."
"Now that the present US administration has clarified its stand to be hostile towards the DPRK to the last, we will also take proper measures to counter it with patience for any length of time," KCNA quoted the vice minister as saying.
It marked Pyongyang's first official response since the US Treasury Department announced Tuesday that it had imposed new sanctions related to North Korean cyber activities.
In September, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said his country could resume talks with Washington if the US dropped its demand for denuclearization, suggesting there was no reason to avoid dialogue if peaceful coexistence was possible. (end)
