Ukraine Hits Russia with New Sanctions
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Thursday a series of new sanctions aimed at intensifying the economic pressure on Russia and harmonizing Ukraine’s measures with the European Union’s 19th sanctions package.
The Ukrainian leader said the sanctions, which are already in effect, focus on Russian resource exports and supply chains for electronic components. He estimated the measures could cost Russia “tens of billions of euros annually.”
Zelenskyy also revealed restrictions targeting Russian companies involved in Arctic resource extraction, calling the sector “a key source of funding for Moscow’s war effort.”
“We already know that our partners will follow suit by incorporating our proposals into their own sanctions packages,” he added.
The president said additional steps would target individuals and organizations connected to Russian propaganda, military production, and collaborationist activities.
“These steps will serve as a ‘tangible response’ to Russia’s recent sanctions on Ukrainian officials, including the prime minister,” Zelenskyy said.
So far, Russia has not commented on Ukraine’s latest sanctions.
