Israel Airstrikes on Southern Lebanon Leave One Dead, Three Injured
(MENAFN) One person was killed and three others were injured Thursday in southern Lebanon during an airstrike carried out by Israel, media reported.
Media said the attack targeted the area between Toura and Abbassiyeh in the Tyre district, prompting ambulances to rush to the scene to assist the casualties.
The Israeli military confirmed the operation, stating it struck sites in southern Lebanon’s Tyre region, focusing on individuals it identified as militants linked to Hezbollah.
"The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) struck terrorists who were operating at a terrorist infrastructure site belonging to Hezbollah's Construction Unit," the military said in a statement.
According to the military, the facility was used to produce equipment that Hezbollah employs to rebuild its operational capabilities. Israel emphasized its commitment to ongoing security efforts, saying it will continue "to operate to remove any threat to the State of Israel."
Despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah that has been in place since Nov. 27, 2024, Israel has carried out near-daily strikes in Lebanon, citing active Hezbollah operations while maintaining border forces.
On Thursday, Hezbollah responded with an open letter addressed to Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, cautioning against "slipping into negotiation traps" with Israel.
"There is no national interest in political negotiations with the Israeli enemy," the statement said.
Hezbollah further accused Israel of employing "blackmail" to push for conditions, including the disarmament of the group, which it labeled "unacceptable and not included in the ceasefire declaration."
The letter emphasized that the question of "exclusive possession of arms" must be settled through national consensus and "not in response to foreign pressure or Israeli coercion."
