In probe into favoritism: S. Korean prosecutors raid ex-leader’s home

(MENAFN) South Korean prosecutors conducted a raid on Thursday at the residence of former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, Kim Keon Hee, as part of an investigation into allegations of favoritism linked to the 2022 relocation of the presidential office and residence, according to reports.

A special counsel team, led by Special Counsel Min Joong-ki, carried out searches at seven locations, including Yoon’s home in southern Seoul, the office of Kim’s former company, Covana Contents, and an interior design firm, 21 Gram, which was involved in renovating the presidential office and residence.

Authorities allege that these companies received preferential treatment during the relocation process. The investigation focuses on claims that 21 Gram, despite lacking proper licensing, was selected for the renovation work after sponsoring exhibitions organized by Covana Contents.

A 2024 state audit found that 21 Gram began construction at the presidential residence before signing a formal contract and breached construction regulations by subcontracting the work to 15 unlicensed firms.

Both Yoon and Kim are currently under arrest, facing separate trials on charges related to martial law violations and corruption, respectively.
