US meeting in UN Security Council seeks to discuss resolution on Gaza
(MENAFN) The US mission to the United Nations announced Wednesday that Ambassador Michael Waltz convened a high-level meeting with the 10 elected members of the UN Security Council to discuss an upcoming resolution on Gaza.
The meeting also included participation from Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates, reflecting “regional support for the resolution” and a shared commitment to advancing stability and peace in Gaza, according to reports.
The draft resolution endorses the creation of a Board of Peace and authorizes an International Stabilization Force, both central elements of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan. The initiative emphasizes the continued delivery of humanitarian aid, the release of hostages, and laying the groundwork for long-term security and prosperity in the region.
"Under President Trump’s bold leadership, the United States will again deliver results at the UN – not endless talk. The parties have seized this historic opportunity to finally end decades of bloodshed and make the president’s vision of lasting peace in the Middle East a reality," the mission said.
Reports indicate that the US has circulated the draft resolution among Security Council members, proposing an international security force in Gaza with a mandate of at least two years. It remains unclear when the resolution will be brought to a vote in the 15-member Council. Adoption would require a minimum of nine votes in favor and no vetoes from any of the five permanent members: the US, Britain, France, Russia, or China.
