Government shutdown affects flights across US

(MENAFN) Flights at 40 airports across the United States will be reduced by 10% starting Friday due to the ongoing government shutdown, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Wednesday.

"There is going to be a 10% reduction in capacity at 40 of our locations," Duffy said during a press briefing in Louisville, Kentucky. He clarified, “This is not based on what airline travel has more flights out of what location. This is about where is the pressure and how do we alleviate the pressure."

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Administrator Bryan Bedford, speaking alongside Duffy, explained that the 10% reduction in scheduled flights is intended to ease the burden on air traffic controllers.

Duffy added, "As we continue to see staffing triggers, there will be additional measures that will be taken in those specific markets."
