Speaker And Algerian Counterpart Discuss Developments In Gaza
Doha, Qatar: Speaker of the Shura Council H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim met yesterday with Speaker of the Council of the Nation of the sisterly People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, H E Azzouz Nasri, as part of his visit to the country to participate in the second World Summit for Social Development in Doha.
At the outset of the meeting, Al Ghanim underscored the Shura Council's commitment to boosting parliamentary cooperation and sharing expertise with the Algerian Council of the Nation, contributing to backing the joint Arab action and unifying positions pertaining to regional and global issues of common concern.
For his part, Nasri extended his thanks and gratitude to the Speaker of the Shura Council for the warm reception, emphasizing that his country looks forward to further collaboration and coordination with the State of Qatar in the parliamentary, economic, and cultural fields.
He heaped praise on Doha's key role in supporting dialogue and understanding, as well as reinforcing stability and development in the region.
The Algerian Speaker further lauded the State of Qatar's enduring positions in supporting the Palestinian people, along with its humanitarian and diplomatic efforts to halt the aggression and lift the suffering of the civilians.
These positions literally embody an initial approach that underpins the Qatari policy in espousing just causes, His Excellency underlined.
Both sides discussed relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them, as well as a raft of subjects of shared interest, foremost among them the developments in the Gaza Strip, along with the profound, dire humanitarian and political developments unfolding there. The two sides also underlined the importance of concerted regional and global parliamentary efforts in supporting the Palestinian people to regain their legitimate rights, first and foremost, the establishment of their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
They further stressed the importance of steadily moving forward the parliamentary actions toward strengthening justice and peace, in addition to galvanizing global positions that support efforts to end the suffering of civilians and achieve stability in the region.
