Putin says West efforts to break Russia apart have failed
(MENAFN) President Vladimir Putin stated on Wednesday that Western efforts to achieve a “strategic defeat” and fragment Russia have not succeeded.
He made the comments during a meeting of the Council for Interethnic Relations, which focused on the country’s national policy strategy and its implementation.
Putin warned that outside Russia, so-called international organizations and “pseudo-national centers” are being created as tools in an “information war” against the country. He described their efforts, including what he called the “so-called decolonization of Russia,” as attempts at the “dismemberment of the Russian Federation and the infliction on us of that same notorious strategic defeat.”
The Russian president added that these entities promote the idea of a “post-Russia,” envisioning a fragmented, subjugated territory stripped of sovereignty. He emphasized that provocations and attempts to incite discord among Russian citizens must be addressed swiftly, noting that those responsible “usually operate from abroad” and are “supervised, financed, and directed by foreign intelligence services.” Their ultimate aim, he said, is “to undermine our unity.”
Putin called for responses to external threats to be carried out “firmly, consistently, and systematically.” He noted that Russia’s adversaries exploit any pretext, ranging from everyday incidents to migration issues, to incite tensions and conflicts, often relying on radical groups employing “outright terrorist methods.”
The president pointed out that such strategies have been promoted in the West in various forms over centuries, and despite repeated failures, the attempts persist. He stressed that these threats should inform the updated national policy strategy and endorsed a proposal to designate 2026 as the Year of the Unity of Russia’s Peoples.
On Tuesday, Russians celebrated National Unity Day, which Putin described as a symbol of the nation’s enduring strength and cohesion, according to reports.
