Saudi Cuts Umrah Visa Validity -What Pilgrims Must Know
Umrah visas will now be valid for only one month from the date of issuance, compared to the earlier three months
Srinagar: As cooler weather draws a record number of pilgrims to Makkah and Madina, Saudi Arabia has unveiled a sweeping overhaul of Umrah regulations-cutting visa validity from three months to one month and mandating stricter compliance across all stages of travel.
According to Al Arabiya, the new rules, which take effect next week, specify that all unused Umrah visas will be automatically cancelled 30 days after issuance. However, the permitted stay duration inside the Kingdom remains three months for those who enter within the validity period.
Officials say the move is aimed at preventing overcrowding in the holy cities, especially during the winter months when Umrah activity surges. Since June, over four million Umrah visas have been issued - a record high in less than five months.
ADVERTISEMENTKey Highlights of the New Rules
1. Visa validity reduced:
Umrah visas will now be valid for only one month from the date of issuance, compared to the earlier three months. Unused visas will expire automatically after 30 days.
2. Mandatory accommodation booking:
Pilgrims must book their hotels through the Masar system linked to the official Nusuk platform while applying for a visa. Those staying with relatives must provide the Saudi host's ID number, which will be verified digitally.
3. Transport tied to official portals:
Taxis, buses, and trains must be reserved via Nusuk or Masar. Pilgrims using unauthorised services risk fines or being denied onwards travel.
4. Tourist visa entry restricted:
Operators warn that pilgrims from certain countries entering Saudi Arabia on tourist visas may be denied access to the Haram or to Riyaz ul Jannah in Medina. Dedicated Umrah visas are strongly advised.
