China decries violence against civilians after RSF seized El-Fasher

(MENAFN) China on Monday strongly condemned the violence targeting civilians in Sudan following the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) capture of El-Fasher in North Darfur and reports of mass killings.

Beijing “closely follows situation in Sudan and condemns acts against the civilians,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning told reporters in Beijing.

Mao expressed hope that “Sudan will end the conflict as soon as possible, ease the humanitarian crisis, resume the political process at an early date and restore peace and stability and achieve reconstruction and development.”

Reports from international and local organizations indicate that the RSF took control of El-Fasher on Oct. 26, committing massacres against civilians during the assault. Observers have warned that the offensive could deepen Sudan’s internal divisions and solidify its territorial fragmentation.

RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemedti,” later acknowledged that his forces had carried out “violations” in El-Fasher, saying that investigative committees were being established.

The war between Sudan’s army and the RSF, which began on April 15, 2023, has continued despite repeated mediation efforts. The conflict has resulted in over 20,000 deaths and displaced more than 15 million people, according to UN and local sources.
