Iran Refutes Nuclear Threat Triggered Israeli, U.S. Strikes Claims
(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Sunday night sharply rejected claims that recent Israeli and U.S. airstrikes on Iran were driven by an imminent nuclear threat, calling the allegation a "heinous lie."
Posting on X, Araghchi said the assertion had been "thoroughly debunked" by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi and Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi.
He added, "Iran didn't 'kill diplomacy,' but 'those who blew up the negotiating table did.'"
The statement comes after Israel’s surprise airstrikes on June 13 targeted multiple Iranian sites, including nuclear and military facilities. The attacks came as Iran and the United States were preparing for a sixth round of indirect talks mediated by Oman, following five previous rounds focused on Tehran’s nuclear program and the potential lifting of U.S. sanctions.
On June 22, U.S. forces carried out strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities — Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan — escalating regional tensions further.
