Govt To Promote Agri-Entrepreneurship Through Value-Added Farming: Agriculture Minister
The conclave, held in New Delhi on Thursday, brought together over 500 participants, including farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Implementing Agencies (IAs), and Cluster-Based Business Organisations (CBBOs) from 24 states and 140 districts.
“Our focus is on integrated farming for the benefit of farmers. Relying solely on grains will not suffice; allied activities must be promoted to enhance farmers' income,” said Chouhan.
He announced that the government is preparing to introduce a new Seed Act aimed at ensuring farmers have access to high-quality seeds.
He also noted that strict measures are being taken to curb the sale of fake seeds and pesticides, and that strong legislation will soon be implemented to safeguard farmers' interests.
“Farmers should not remain only producers but become entrepreneurs through agriculture. Processing and value addition will increase their income,” the minister said, urging farmers to adopt value-added practices.
He also interacted with farmers at 57 stalls, appreciating their innovations and encouraging the adoption of technology and modern market practices.
During the event, outstanding FPOs, CBBOs, and implementing agencies were recognised for their contributions.
An exhibition featuring 267 FPOs showcased a variety of agricultural and organic products.
A dedicated platform was set up to facilitate direct engagement between FPOs, farmers, buyers, and sellers, opening up new market avenues for rural entrepreneurs.
The conclave aims to empower farmers as producers, providers, and partners, representing a major step forward in fostering inclusive and innovative agricultural development.
