Türkiye Unveils First Indigenous Altay Tanks

(MENAFN) Türkiye has officially delivered the first domestically produced Altay tanks to its military, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Tuesday during the inauguration of the BMC Ankara Tank and New Generation Armored Vehicles Production Facility.

The Altay represents Türkiye’s latest main battle tank, with its large-scale production taking place at the Ankara facility of Turkish manufacturer BMC.

President Erdogan noted that the tanks underwent an extensive testing process, covering 35,000 kilometers (approximately 21,750 miles) and 3,700 live-fire drills before being formally handed over to the armed forces.

He further explained that the Altay, equipped with modernized systems, is built to endure the harshest combat environments.

Erdogan also emphasized the significance of Türkiye’s mass production complex, which occupies 63,000 square meters.

He stated that the facility will manufacture eight Altay tanks and ten Altug armored vehicles—referred to as “fortresses of the battlefield”—every month.

“We continue to write a legend with our state-of-the-art air, land, and sea vehicles,” Erdogan remarked. “We are no longer just a state that follows; we are a state that is followed.”
