Airplane gets struck by mysterious object mid-flight
(MENAFN) A United Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 was reportedly struck by an unidentified object while in flight, with some speculating it may have been debris from space.
United Flight 1093 departed from Denver, Colorado, on Thursday bound for Los Angeles but began an unscheduled descent roughly 40 minutes later while passing over Utah, ultimately diverting to Salt Lake City. The aircraft was carrying 140 passengers.
Images circulating online — which have not been independently verified — appear to show damage to the fuselage, shattered cockpit glass, and blood on the pilot’s arm.
According to an aviation website, the captain reported that the plane had been hit by “space debris.” The outlet added that investigators are also examining the possibility that the object was part of a weather balloon.
Passenger Heather Ramsey told FOX 11 that the flight crew announced over the intercom that the aircraft had “collided with an object.”
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) confirmed on Sunday that it is investigating “a cracked windscreen” on the jet. United acknowledged the windshield damage but declined to provide additional details.
