Trump Predicts Harmony Between Pakistan, India
(MENAFN) During a formal gathering in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, where a peace agreement regarding the Gaza ceasefire was endorsed, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about future relations between India and Pakistan.
Speaking at the signing ceremony on Monday, he stated that the two South Asian nations are “going to live very nicely together.”
The American leader complimented India, describing it as an outstanding nation and applauding its leadership.
“India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top and he's just done a fantastic job,” Trump said.
He went on to voice hope for enduring peace between India and Pakistan.
Standing just behind Trump during his remarks, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif responded with admiration.
He described the US president as a “man of peace,” and commended his involvement in halting multiple global conflicts.
Sharif added, “Today again I want to nominate the great president for the Nobel Peace Prize because he has not only brought peace in South Asia but saved millions of lives.”
He further acknowledged Trump’s leadership by saying, “I would like to salute you for your exemplary leadership and I think the world will remember you as the man who went out of his way and stopped eight wars.”
Earlier this year, tensions surged between the neighboring countries after a deadly militant assault in India's Jammu and Kashmir region claimed the lives of 26 civilians in April.
In response, New Delhi carried out airstrikes inside Pakistani territory. A short-lived confrontation followed before a ceasefire was eventually declared between the two nations.
