Ceasefire Takes Effect in Gaza

(MENAFN) Israel officially declared on Friday that the ceasefire in Gaza had begun at 12:00 p.m. local time (0900 GMT).

According to a written statement issued by the Israeli military to a news agency, "Starting at 12:00, army forces took up positions on the new operational deployment lines based on the ceasefire agreement and the return of the abductees."

The announcement highlighted that military personnel have now assumed positions aligned with the terms of the truce.

The Israeli army further noted that its troops remain stationed under the Southern Command and will persist in efforts "to remove any immediate threat." However, the statement did not elaborate on the specifics of these operations or the broader security strategy.

A correspondent from the news agency stationed near the region described a notable development as the truce commenced.

Large numbers of displaced Palestinians began making their way back to Gaza City from the southern part of the enclave.

Their return was facilitated by access to Al-Rashid Street, a coastal route, and the central Salah al-Din Road, which the Israeli army confirmed were open for movement.

Meanwhile, Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued movement advisories to Palestinians in northern Gaza.

Emphasizing safety concerns, he cautioned civilians not to approach Israeli troops.

On the platform X, Adraee stated: “In the northern Gaza Strip area, approaching the areas of Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, Al-Shujaiya, and areas where (Israeli) forces are stationed is extremely dangerous.”
