Ukraine Enacts Emergency Electricity Outages Following Russian Strike
(MENAFN) Ukraine has enacted emergency electricity outages in Kyiv and nine other regions following an intense overnight barrage of Russian missiles and drones, the state energy operator Ukrenergo confirmed Friday.
Power restrictions were swiftly rolled out across critical areas, including the capital, the broader Kyiv region, and northern zones like Sumy and Chernihiv. Central regions—Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, and Poltava—were also affected, alongside several others, in response to the wide-scale assault.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attack involved “more than 450 drones and over 30 missiles,” with the country’s energy infrastructure as the primary target.
“A child was killed, and over 20 people across the country were injured in the attack,” Zelensky stated in an official update.
He added: “Emergency services are working on the sites of the strike to mitigate the consequences.”
The scale and coordination of the strike mark one of the most significant Russian offensives against Ukraine’s energy grid in recent months, as colder weather raises the stakes for power stability nationwide.
