Zelensky: Sumy, Chernihiv, Donetsk Regions Face Critical Electricity Shortages After Russian Attacks

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the situation in a video message .

“Today, for virtually the entire day, Russian forces carried out heavy strikes on the city of Shostka in Sumy region - hitting the railway station, the energy infrastructure, and other civilian facilities. This is typical Russian terror. Dozens of drones were used. One strike hit a regular train - no military purpose at all. Unfortunately, one person died. My condolences,” Zelensky said.

He noted that there are casualties, including three children, the youngest being seven years old. All are receiving the necessary medical care. Energy workers, repair crews, and other essential services are actively working to restore electricity. Zelensky expressed gratitude to everyone helping with the recovery efforts.

“In Shostka, Shostka district, other districts of Sumy region, districts of Chernihiv region, as well as in Donetsk region, the electricity situation remains difficult after the strikes, but every effort is being made to restore the power supply, which also means restoring water supply and normal communications. It is essential that in all communities, and at the regional level, our people receive maximum support, especially families with children, the elderly, and those living alone. Support reserves must be available in every region. This is the personal responsibility of regional authorities,” Zelensky emphasized.

He praised the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) for their rapid response wherever needed.

“In Sumy region, I particularly want to recognize the work of the regional SES staff in recent days and weeks: Oleksandr Kolyshenko, Volodymyr Morozov, Ihor Yaremenko. SES staff in Chernihiv region: Anatolii Los, Dmytro Dasiuk, Andrii Opanasenko, Pavlo Tovstyi. SES staff inKharkiv region: Serhii Sumtsov, Viktor Hubin, Ihor Chahovets, Maksym Cholombytko. Also, the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Poltava region, and especially Viacheslav Yukhno, Ihor Subota, Oleh Kolomiiets, and Anatolii Davydenko.
