Galatasaray Outlasts Liverpool in UEFA Champions League Encounter
(MENAFN) Galatasaray clinched a narrow 1-0 victory over Liverpool in a high-stakes UEFA Champions League encounter on Tuesday.
Both teams aggressively sought to seize control, but it was Galatasaray who drew first blood in the 16th minute. Victor Osimhen calmly converted a penalty after Baris Alper Yilmaz was fouled inside the box in the 14th minute, giving the home side a crucial lead at Rams Park during the second matchday of the group stage.
Liverpool responded with relentless attacks, yet Galatasaray’s defense remained resolute, preserving their advantage through the opening 45 minutes.
The second half unfolded with end-to-end action, as both sides generated promising chances in a fast-paced battle. In a tense moment at the 90th minute, Wilfried Singo was initially penalized for a foul on a Liverpool player inside the penalty area. However, following a VAR intervention, the penalty call was overturned and the kick canceled.
Galatasaray continued to press for a second goal, but Liverpool’s defense held firm in the dying minutes.
This victory marks Galatasaray’s first-ever win in the UEFA Champions League and their inaugural three points in this year’s competition, rebounding strongly from their 5-1 defeat to Frankfurt on September 18.
