NEW YORK, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- Assistant Foreign Minister for Development and International Cooperation, Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, stressed Friday on the need to enhance international coordination to develop sustainable strategies for the reintegration and rehabilitation of persons from refugee camps and detention centers in conflict zones.
In addition, to ensure an international approach aimed at protecting and promoting human rights and a world of security and stability.
Ambassador Al-Mashaan made the remarks during a high-level international conference on the return of persons from camps and detention centers in conflict zones, organized by the Iraqi government and supported by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism here in New York.
The conference was held on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Al-Mashaan stated that the State of Kuwait attaches great importance to maintaining international peace and security and has an honorable record in combating terrorism, in addition to its constant commitment to developing its national capabilities to combat terrorism and aligning its efforts with international efforts.
The ambassador pointed out that Kuwait is an active member of the international coalition against the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) through its chairmanship of the coalition's working group to prevent the flow of foreign terrorist fighters.
Since 2019, it has secured and facilitated the transfer of more than 500 fighters and their family members, in cooperation with the United States, and continues to receive similar requests from other countries.
Al-Mashaan emphasized that the fate of children is a collective global responsibility, warning that ignoring their suffering will lead to the creation of a new generation of instability, while collective action can give them the opportunity to build a positive future.
Ambassador Al-Mashaan also called for the adoption of multi-dimensional strategies to enhance border security, the use of modern technology, advanced systems, and biometric databases to prevent infiltration and confront security threats, reiterating Kuwait's firm stance in condemning terrorism in all its forms and working to combat it with a comprehensive and advanced approach that enhances stability and social cohesion.
