G7 Urges Iran To Honour Nuclear Deal Commitments, Resume Direct Talks With U.S.

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) G7 foreign ministers urged Iran to uphold its Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty obligations, resume full cooperation with the IAEA, and re-engage Washington in comprehensive nuclear negotiations.

Foreign ministers of the Group of Seven nations have pressed Iran to comply with its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and return to full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). They insisted Tehran must re-engage in direct talks with Washington to achieve a comprehensive and durable nuclear agreement.

The joint statement was issued following a meeting of ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, together with the European Union's representative, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The G7 ministers said preventing Iran from ever acquiring nuclear weapons was a shared priority. They urged Tehran to resume transparent inspections and constructive dialogue, stressing that nuclear diplomacy remains vital for both regional and global security.

Beyond Iran, the statement turned to the Middle East conflict, urging the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, the release of hostages, and a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The ministers made clear that Hamas“cannot have a role in Gaza's future and must not be allowed to threaten Israel.”

Diplomats said the timing of the joint declaration was designed to show G7 unity on multiple fronts, linking nuclear non-proliferation with urgent humanitarian and security crises. It reflected concerns that inaction could further destabilise global order.

As conflicts intensify in the Middle East, Europe, and beyond, the G7's stance underlines a strategy of coordinated pressure and dialogue. Whether Iran, Israel, and other actors heed these appeals will shape the trajectory of international diplomacy in the months ahead.
