Jirga Secures Release Of CNEC Engineer And Two Others In Nowshera After Ransom Payment

A jirga secured the release of an optical fiber engineer of a private mobile internet company, CNEC, and two other staff members who were abducted from Nizampur, Nowshera district, yesterday after the payment of ransom.

According to sources, the hostages were freed after a payment of Rs1.5 million ransom and an understanding with a local proscribed group that no action would be taken against the kidnappers after the release.

The jirga handed over the three hostages near a PSO petrol pump in Nizampur to their families and police. Those released include optical fiber engineer Kashif Israr, laborer Mubashir son of Amir Zaman, resident of Karak, and driver Zahid son of Fatah Khan, resident of Mardan.

Kashif Israr's father, Muhammad Israr, confirmed that the jirga handed over his son and the other abductees to them around 6:30 pm.

The negotiations were led by former nazim Shad Khattak, Raja Ustad, Mero Havaldar, Abdul Qadir, and other members of the Aslai Committee.

Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) also confirmed the release, stating that the three employees were handed over through the jirga. The hostages' vehicle had been recovered a few days earlier from Khord seasonal stream.

Yesterday, a school principal was also kidnapped from Bannu district, with no update on his whereabouts so far.
