Amman, Sept. 20 (Petra) – Police have arrested a man accused of killing another and setting his body on fire in a wooded area of Jerash, authorities said on Saturday.
Police said they were alerted on Sept. 18 to a blaze in a forest in the northern governorate. After the fire was put out, rescuers discovered a body buried in a two-metre-deep pit. A forensic examination found the victim had died from a gunshot wound.
Investigators formed a special task force and quickly identified a suspect. According to police, the victim had gone to meet him to collect money owed to the victim's employer.
The suspect was arrested and confessed to shooting the man, burning his body and trying to cover up the crime by claiming he had repaid the debt, police said.
The firearm used in the killing was recovered. The case has been referred to the public prosecutor at the Grand Criminal Court.
