Military Aid Under PURL: Ukraine Awaits Official US Confirmation On First Packages

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The ministry's spokesperson, Heorhii Tykhyi, said this at a briefing on Wednesday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"We have seen media reports so far that the first packages have been allocated under the PURL program. We welcome this and, of course, await official information," he said, adding that this confirms the mechanism is functioning and is extremely important.

Tykhyi clarified that he could confirm the decision after consultations with Ukraine's Embassy in the United States, but declined to disclose details.

"Ukraine's wartime needs are high and will remain high. That's why we expect our partner states to continue contributing to PURL. This is extremely important. The President of Ukraine keeps this under his personal control to ensure the PURL budget keeps growing," the diplomat said.

Tykhyi added that Kyiv considers this mutually beneficial cooperation for Ukraine, European partners, and the United States - with Washington selling high-quality weapons and receiving funds in return.

The Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative is a new mechanism focused on supplying Ukraine with weapons from a list of priority needs. It allows NATO member states to finance the supply of U.S. weapons and technology through voluntary contributions.

So far, 11 countries have joined the PURL program. As of September 6, the new initiative had raised $2 billion. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine is working to increase funding for the program.
