(MENAFN) Britain's King Charles and US President Donald Trump lauded the special relationship between their nations during addresses Wednesday at a state banquet held at Windsor Castle.

Charles began his remarks by expressing his delight in hosting Trump at Windsor Castle for his historic second state visit to the United Kingdom.

He emphasized the "unique and important occasion," underscoring the lasting connection between their two countries, and stated that the relationship is "anchored by the deep friendship between our people."

Looking ahead, Charles noted that next year marks the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence, reflecting that it is "remarkable to think just how far we have come."

He added: "We celebrate a relationship between our two countries that surely neither (first US President George) Washington nor King George III could possibly have imagined."

On matters of defense and security, Charles remarked: "Today, as tyranny once again threatens Europe, we and our allies stand together in support of Ukraine, to deter aggression and secure peace."

He also commended Trump's "personal commitment to finding solutions" to some of the world’s most persistent conflicts, highlighting his efforts to promote peace.
