Iran: Agreement With IAEA Invalid If Subjected To Hostile Action
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
TEHRAN, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- Iran warned on Wednesday that the agreement it recently signed with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi in Cairo will be null and void if it faces any hostile actions.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei stated that "if any hostile actions are taken against Iran, which includes the reimposition of UN Security Council sanctions, then the agreement will be considered null and void."
He criticized the IAEA, saying, "our problem is that the International Agency sometimes takes positions that exceed its technical powers under the influence of American pressure and the three European countries Britain, France, and Germany."
He continued, stating, "It is Iran's right to take reciprocal measures if the other parties do not fulfil their commitments."
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi signed an agreement in Cairo earlier this month, which outlines practical steps to continue monitoring activities at Iranian nuclear facilities.
The European troika countries had informed the members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) of their decision to activate the mechanism for reimposing UN sanctions on Iran. (end)
