Jordan Marks 40 Years Of Ozone Layer Protection, Reaffirms Global Commitment
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Sep. 16 (Petra) – Minister of Environment, Ayman Suleiman, underlined on Tuesday that Jordan was among the first countries to ratify the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer four decades ago, committing early to the phase-out of ozone-depleting substances in solidarity with global efforts to protect the planet from harmful ultraviolet radiation.
In a message marking the 40th anniversary of the Convention, Suleiman noted that the ministry, through its Ozone Unit, has supported national industries via the Montreal Fund, enabling companies to upgrade production lines with ozone-friendly alternatives.
He added that Jordan has ratified all amendments to the Convention, including the Kigali Amendment, reflecting its commitment to gradually reduce hydrofluorocarbons in refrigeration and air conditioning, key contributors to climate change.
Suleiman highlighted that this year's International Ozone Day theme, "From Scientific Knowledge to Global Action," underscores global efforts under the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol, supported by the guidance of the Hashemite leadership.
He underscored that Jordan will continue advancing environmental achievements to protect future generations from the risks of climate change and ozone depletion.
